Bio

My name is Alex Pickett. I am an award-winning journalist from St. Petersburg, Florida.

I’ve written for the New Haven Advocate, the Chandler Independent, the Des Moines Register’s Juice publication, the Arizona Republic and Creative Loafing, Tampa Bay’s alternative weekly.

As a reporter, I investigated zoos, police departments and homelessness. I have written award-winning features on a prisoner serving a life sentence and the effects of gentrification on a historic African-American neighborhood. I’ve also hitchiked the state of Florida, spent early mornings exploring hobo camps, and covered midget wrestling. I’m one of only four American reporters to be waterboarded.

I take my own photos, edit audio and video, and write short stories.

Do you need a writer? I’m your guy.
